Would you like to grow your own food, but you have limited space, time or money? A series of programs, “Grow Organic: You CAN Grow It!” will give you plenty of methods, ideas and inspiration to show that you can do it, despite obstacles!

All programs are open to the public and free of charge.

The February section of the series is ready to begin. The kick-off event will be February 1 with a public showing of the film “Food, Inc.”, which gives reasons and incentives to grow your own food, as well as simple things individuals can do to change our food system, make better choices and be healthier. The film will be followed by open discussion, and this program does not require registration.

On February 15, learn to easily build simple things for your garden, such as a compost bin, trellis, raised bed and “chicken tractor” from Chris Coffey’s presentation “Easy Garden Building Projects”. Chris will be followed by Cindy Jones and Terri King’s presentation “Recycling for the Garden”, where you will learn to recycle in and out of the garden, and save money using things you’d probably throw away to , instead, simply accomplish a variety of garden tasks.

Learn to become more self-sufficient, reduce your impact on the planet and enrich your community ties when Patti Coffey presents “Urban Sustainable Living” on February 22. You will learn easy techniques to creatively and holistically blend urban life with sustainable living.

The February Monday night programs will all take place at 6:30 Eastern time in the Fortnightly Club building, 6th and Seminary Streets, Vincennes. Register for the February 15 and 22 programs by calling the Knox County Public Library at 812-886-4380 or stopping at the circulation desk.

There are more programs coming throughout the seasons, such as Backyard Wildlife Habitat, Organic Container Gardening, Edible Gardening for Small Spaces, a Soil and Compost Workshop, Raingardens, Indoor Edible Gardening, and more! Watch for them – you’ll be surprised what you can do!
