YMCA Programs: We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
Zumba
Zumba is so hot, the YMCA is adding day time classes. Beginning Feb. 8 Zumba classes will be held on Mondays from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. and on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30. The classes will be taught by certified Zumba instructor Kendra Claycomb and are open to Y members and non-members. The classes are $4.50 each for members, $5 each for non-members. There is also a special Zumba fitness card that can be purchased for multiple classes. The evening Zumba classes with Davida Cartwright continue on Monday and Thursday evenings from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. Zumba is great fun as well as a great workout to some great music. Try it--we’re sure you will like it!
Butts-n-Guts
Another new fitness offering from the Y, Butts-n-Guts, is off to a great start. Work on those problem areas with a variety of activities designed to tone and sculpt. The class meets on Thursdays from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. You can pay by the class or purchase a convenient fitness class card. For more information on this class, or any of our fitness classes, call Carrie Staggs, Group Exercise Coordinator, 895-9622, ext. 22.
All Day Child Care
Parents, don’t be caught off guard on Monday, Feb. 15, when you realize there is no school that day. Make arrangements now for your children in kindergarten through 6th grade to spend a fun-filled day at the YMCA. They will have quality supervision while they spend the day with friends—or making new ones. There will be games, crafts, gymnastics and snacks, but remember to send lunch for your children. If you haven’t been here before, you will need to pre-register. If you need more information, contact Bill Davis, Teen and Family Director, ext. 21. For members and non-members. Guarantee a great day for the kids and peace of mind for yourself with our All Day Child Care.
Indoor Triathlon
This is the last week to register for the YMCA’s inaugural Indoor Triathlon. This event will break you out of your routine as you swim in the pool, cycle on stationary bikes and run on treadmills, each for 15 minute segments. Winners will be determined by distance and prizes will be awarded. If you are 16 years of age or older, you will be able to participate, regardless of your skill level. The tri will take place on Sat., Feb. 20, at 9 a.m. But you must preregister by Sat., Feb. 13. There will be no registration the day of the event. Get registered and join in the fun or call the Y front desk if you need more information.
Spring Drama Workshop
All area junior thespians will want to take advantage of the upcoming spring drama workshop. The workshop is a collaborative effort between Old Town Players and the Vincennes YMCA to bring the arts to kids in 5th through 12th grades. This 8-week program will give students an opportunity to learn the finer points of auditioning and how to develop characters as well as learn technical aspects of the theatre. Students will select a play to be presented at the end of the session, will audition for the parts in the play and will be responsible for many of the backstage elements of the performance. The workshop is on Wednesdays, beginning Feb. 24 and concluding April 21, meeting at the Old Town Players theatre from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Members and non-members are invited to participate and financial assistance may be available to those who qualify. For more details, contact Bill Davis, ext. 21. |
