YMCA Programs: We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities
Indoor Triathlon
Get out of the winter doldrums by participating in the YMCA’s new winter activity, the Indoor Triathlon. The hour-long event is for anyone 16 and older and for all skill levels. The triathlon will consist of 15 minutes each of swimming, cycling and running. Swimming will take place in the Y pool with cycling on stationary bikes and the running portion completed on treadmills. The indoor tri is perfect for those looking for a fun family event, someone wanting to expand their exercise activity or those just trying something different for the fun of it. Registration can be made at the Y front desk and will include a t-shirt. Prizes will be awarded. Contact Bill Davis, Teen & Family Director, 895-9622, ext. 21, for more information.
Aquatics
A new 4-week session of swim lessons is slated to begin next week. Monday-Wednesday classes begin Feb. 8 and run until March 3 and Tuesday-Thursday classes begin Feb. 9, running through March 4.
Preschool Swim Lessons are for children 3-5 years of age. Preschoolers will learn a progression of skills in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. Children learn at their own pace depending on the their developmental abilities and aquatic skills. The Preschool sessions begin at 6 p.m. and end at 6:30 p.m.
Youth Swim Lessons take children 6 and older through a progression of different aquatic skills learned through seven different levels. Levels start at a beginner’s stage running through a swim team level. Children learn in a fun, no pressure environment. These classes also start at 6 p.m.
Swim lessons are for Y members and also non-members. Financial assistance may be available to those who qualify.
Water Fitness Classes are a good way to increase your flexibility, improve muscle tone, endurance and flexibility and promote cardiovascular fitness—all without stress on the joints. Enjoy the warm water as you move and stretch. The classes are lots of fun and a great opportunity to socialize a bit. Cardio Aquacise classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 10:50 a.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 5:50 p.m. Arthritis Aquacise is held Tuesday and Thursday from 10 to 10:50 a.m., and Men’s Aquacise is Monday and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and again on Friday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. The aquacise classes are open to non-members as well as members and a water fitness punch card can be purchased at the front desk for your convenience. If you have never tried aquacise, you can attend your first class for free. We invite you to try it out!

Each class is closely monitored and taught by a Dayson Heart Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse and an exercise physiologist. This class meets in the YMCA cardio room on Monday Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 8 a.m. Y members and non-members can register for this program by calling Jo Singleton at the Dayson Heart Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.
